Worth Losing Everything
A 7-Day Prayer Guide: Loosening Your Grip on What Won't Last
Philippians 3:7–11
There's a quiet weight we can carry — the weight of everything we’ve built, everything we’ve earned, everything we’re trying to hold together. This guide isn't about letting go of hard work. It's about loosening your grip on the things you've been using to feel safe and valuable — and learning to rest in what Christ has already given you instead.
One day at a time. One prayer at a time.
Day 1 — The Ledger You Keep
Verse: "But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ." — Philippians 3:7
Comment: Paul didn't give up worthless things — he gave up his best things, because he found something better.
Prayer: Father, I confess that I keep a ledger. I track what I've done right, what I've built, and what I've held together — and I use it to feel good about myself. Today, help me see that ledger for what it is, and begin to loosen my grip on it. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 2 — The Weight of Comparison
Verse: "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord." — Philippians 3:8
Comment: Paul doesn't say Jesus is slightly better — he says Jesus makes everything else impossible to compare. That's not a modest claim. That's a man who held both and knew which one was real.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I confess that I haven't treated you as surpassingly worthy. I've let other things compete for the place only you should hold. Today, open my eyes to how much you are actually worth — more than my career, my reputation, and my track record combined. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 3 — What Rubbish Looks Like
Verse: "For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ." — Philippians 3:8
Comment: The Greek word Paul uses here — skubalon — is one of the bluntest words in the New Testament. He's not politely setting his credentials aside. He's treating them the way you treat something you'd throw out without a second look.
Prayer: Father, show me what I'm still holding onto that you're calling me to release. The achievements, the reputation, the moral track record I fall back on when I need to feel okay. Give me the honesty to call it what Paul called it — and the grace to let it go. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 4 — Found in Him
Verse: "…that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith." — Philippians 3:8–9
Comment: The word "found" means discovered — seen for who you really are. Paul wants to be found in Christ, not in his own résumé. That's a different kind of safety than the one most men reach for.
Prayer: Lord, I want to be found in you — not in what I've done or what I've built. Today, remind me that my standing before you isn't held up by my effort. It's held up by Christ's. Help me to rest in that instead of reaching for my own record. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 5 — A Righteousness You Didn't Build
Verse: "…the righteousness from God that depends on faith." — Philippians 3:9
Comment: This is the heart of the passage. The righteousness God requires, Christ provides — and gives it freely to everyone who trusts him. You are not building your way to God. You are not maintaining a record he checks.
Prayer: Father, thank you that the righteousness you require is not one I have to produce. Christ produced it. He gave it. It's mine through faith — complete, credited, and unlosable. Help me live today like a man who actually believes that. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 6 — Through Suffering, Not Around It
Verse: "…that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death." — Philippians 3:10
Comment: Paul doesn't want resurrection power without the fellowship of Christ's sufferings. The two go together. Following Jesus through hard things is not a sign something went wrong — it's the shape of the life he lived, and you are living it with him now.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I confess that I want the resurrection without the cross. I want the comfort without the cost. Today, help me trust that you are present in my suffering — not watching from a distance, but walking through it with me, the way you walked through it first. In Jesus' name we pray —
Day 7 — The Finish Line
Verse: "…that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead." — Philippians 3:11
Comment: Paul holds this with holy awe — not because he doubts his salvation, but because he knows the resurrection is something God will accomplish, not something Paul will achieve. The finish line is real. And God is the one who gets you there.
Prayer: Father, remind me today that this life is not the end of the story. The resurrection is coming — not because I earned it, but because Christ secured it. Help me live with that end in view. Loosen my grip on what won't last, and fix my eyes on what will. In Jesus' name we pray —
