3 Examples of Pointing - Not Performing

1. John the Baptist — John 3:22–30
John's own followers came to him worried: Jesus was baptizing more people, and the crowds were shifting. It was the perfect moment for John to defend his turf. Instead, he said the joy was already his — the bridegroom gets the attention, not the friend standing beside him. His conclusion has become one of the clearest lines in Scripture on this: He must increase, I must decrease. John didn't manage his platform. He handed it over.

2. Andrew — John 1:40–42
Andrew is one of the first people to follow Jesus, and the very first thing he does is go find his brother Simon and bring him to Jesus too. No sermon, no spotlight — just "we have found the Messiah," and a walk across town to make the introduction. Andrew shows up in only a handful of verses in the whole Gospel, always doing the same quiet thing: bringing someone else to Christ and stepping back.

3. The Samaritan Woman at the Well — John 4:28–39
She came to the well guarded and alone, avoiding the crowd. She left without her water jar, running to tell the very town she'd been avoiding, "Come see a man who told me everything I ever did." She didn't polish her testimony or hide her past — she just pointed. And the text says many in that town believed because of her word before they ever met Jesus themselves.
